SECTION 1: What is a theme?
A Theme consists of background wallpaper, sound files,
animated mouse pointers, and icons. My "Fall Theme #1
Version 1.0" consists of these things centered
around the U.K. rock group "The Fall".
-------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 2: What is in my theme?
The following sound files (.wav files) have been attached to
Windows default "sound events". For example when you
maximize your window, an event is launched that plays a sound.
I have changed it to play a short fall sound. DON'T WORRY,
all items that are in my theme can be turned off and put back
to windows default if you do not like them, or
if it causes your computer some problems (see section 5).
The following Fall song (.wav files) are associated with
various WIN95 Sound Events. Sound can be found in the
control panel. Here is the breakdown:

The following system icons have been replaced by "Fall icons".
My Computer (mes32bw3.ico)
Recycle Bin Empty (mesyello.ico)
Recycle Bin Full (mesfull.ico)
Network Neighborhood (no icon, I just couldn't think of a
good one. Please email me an idea or a 32X32 pixels
icon (.ico or .bmp or .jpg. or .cur etc.) if you can and I
will put it in the next release.)
The following Cursors have been replaced by
"Fall Cursors/Animated Cursors".
Normal Select (I.E. your normal mouse pointer) (fall.cur)
Working In Background (middtr.ani)
Busy (bcount.ani)
In addition I have created some background wallpaper to
enhance your PC. It is called (fallcanah.bmp).
-------------------------------------------------------------
Section 3: System Requirements
To be honest I really don't know. I can tell you for sure
what you need to view themes but you may have problems if
your P.C. is too slow etc. What I will do is list what you
definitely need to view the "Fall Theme",
as well as what type of equipment I have. If your equipment
is equal to mine or better you should have no problem. If
it does not equal my equipment I would try it and see. If
it doesn't work just put the default theme back in and blow
the files listed above away off your computer.
Mandatory Requirements:
Windows 95/
Microsoft Plus! (the default directory for this is
"Program Files\Plus!")(I believe NT includes PLUS!
with it). I have come to find out that you don't need
plus for sure with WINNT and maybe not for WIN95. You
will just need to setup the individual components one
by one and you don't need to worry about the
the fall.theme file.
Here is my system. Again you may, or may not, need all of
the same configuration that I'm using. Test it out and see
if it works correctly for you.
Suggested Requirements: (I would try whatever you have and
see if it works if it doesn't it may be because you
are not running the same type of equipment/settings
etc.)
1). Pentium 166mhz
2). 32MB RAM
3). Your monitor should be running at least 16BIT COLOR. This
is probably critical. If everything looks like crap it
is because you are probably running less colors.
Warning this does slow down the computer. I played
around with this and you better be running
this or something better or it looks like crap. This
will still work without 16BIT color but all the
graphics will be downgraded so you may not like it.
4). My color resolution is (1024 X 768 pixels). I played around
with this and you better be running this or something
better or it looks like crap. If you are using a
smaller resolution the background will look like crap.
5). PCI Diamond Stealth 3D Video Card (2MB of some kind of video
RAM)(I don't think it matters what brand but this will
definitely speed things up. Again if your screen
paints to slow it may not be the problem with the
amount of computer RAM you have, but it may be
because you don't have a video card, or not enough
video RAM.)
6). 512K Cache (this may not matter)
7). 17" monitor (this shouldn't matter, the desktop wallpaper will
just be cut off).
8). Some kind of soundcard
-------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 4: HOW TO INSTALL THIS THEME
The easiest way to install this theme is to unzip "fall2.zip"
into wherever the PLUS!\THEMES\ directory resides on your pc.
Mine is located in "C:\PROGRAM FILES\PLUS!\THEMES\" directory
although I have seen where different PC's place them in
different locations. My "fall2.zip" contains 2 files.
File 1: readfall.txt (This is the read me file which you are
viewing currently.)
File 2: fall1.Theme (This is the theme file). This file may
not be that critical if you don't have MS-Plus! I
believe you can still install everything piece by
piece.
Then you open the CONTROL PANEL and select DESKTOP THEMES.
Choose the "fall1" theme, and you are in business!
-------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 5: Oh No! This screwed up my PC, How Do I Get It Off?
To Remove Fall Background Wallpaper:
From withing "My Computer\Control Panel\Display" select the
(Background tab). Next select the "browse" button and look
for the appropriate wallpaper that you use to have prior to
installing my fall theme. Next select the appropriate
"Pattern" and "Display" from within the Background tab.
Choose "Apply" and everything should be back to normal.
To Remove Fall Background Wallpaper:
From withing "My Computer\Control Panel\Display" select the
(Plus!) tab. Next select the "desktop icon" picture you want
to change. Choose "Default Icon" and Windows default
"desktop icons" should be in place. Everything should be
back to normal now.
To Remove Fall .wav files:
From withing "My Computer\Control Panel\Sounds", select each
Windows Sound event (identified with a little speaker picture
next to it) and select the "browse" button. Choose the
appropriate .wav file that you use to have prior to installing
my fall theme. Choose "OK" and everything should be back
to normal.
To Remove Fall Cursors:
From withing "My Computer\Control Panel\Mouse" select the
(Pointers tab). Choose "Use Default" and everything should
be back to normal now.
Finally delete my "fall1.theme" file and my "readfall.txt"
file. They are both located under the
"Plus!\Themes\" directory. Most likely in:
"C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\"!
That should do it. Now your P.C. is "fall theme-less"!

SECTION 6: NOTES FROM THE AUTHOR
Note #1 from the author:
I have (unfortunately!) nothing to do with "The Fall"!
I'm just a huge fan of this superb band! If you want to
know more about the band etc., please drop by my
unofficial Fall page (address at the top of this
document.)
Note #2 from the author:
I would really like some feedback on this theme.
If you like it, let me know... if you hate it, let me
know...Please try to keep all criticizm constructive.
I don't really need to know "Wow dude, That sucked!".
Let me know if you are having problems with any
certain icon, .wav file or whatever.
Remember this is Version 1.0. I may be "enhancing"
this in the future or creating different Fall Themes
so keep an eye out.
If you have other ideas for (.wav files/icons etc.)
either give me the idea and I may run with it, or
send me the actual.
If I've left out a particular Fall song that you like
it is probably because I am working only off of CD's
to get the .wav samples (and Sony Mini-Disk of course).
I'd really appreciate it.
Mike Wright
P.S. Not since the "Mark E. Smith for Drain
Commissioner" project (If you don't know what I'm
talking about don't worry about it) have I spent
so much time on a Fall project as this.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
Mark E. Smith (or band members) please respond back
to let me know what you think of this.
